A:
Hypnosis, also referred to as trance, can be simply explained as an 'altered state of
awareness'. This totally natural phenomenon is part of our daily lives and
is experienced at least twice a day. You may know it as day dreaming, or
being absorbed in the storyline of a book or a film while outside events
seemed to fade momentarily.
A:
Hypnotherapy combines therapeutic techniques such as psychotherapy,
counselling, NLP with the use of hypnosis. Hypnotherapy generates fast,
effective and long lasting results. The role of a hypnotherapist is to help you establish communication channels with your
subconscious in order to overcome your inner obstacles and reach your goals.
A:
NLP derived from Ericksonian hypnotherapy. Indeed Bandler & Grinder
modelled the work of Milton H. Erickson - father of hypnotherapy as we know
it - to develop a new therapeutic technique called Neuro-Linguistic
Programming (NLP). NLP is based on sets of relations between linguistic
forms, eye and body position and movement, and memory. NLP is widely used
for therapeutic and coaching purposes.
A:
Hypnotherapy can help with a great number of issues, some of which are
listed on the
Treatments
page. It is a very successful method of therapy with most people. The most
crucial part of establishing whether it is right for you - as with any type
of therapy - is to find a therapist who you trust and with whom you feel
safe and comfortable.
A:
Everyone can be hypnotised. Hypnosis or trance is an entirely natural state
which occurs at least twice a day. You have been in a state of
hypnosis more times in your life than you can count. The key to 'being
hypnotised' is to trust yourself and the therapist enough to allow yourself
to relax and let the process happen naturally.
A:
No. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis and as such the hypnotherapist acts as a
guide to assist the client access a state of deep relaxation. Just as
when daydreaming, you retain absolute control and will be able to
snap out of trance in a split second if you choose. If you are feeling
comfortable and very relaxed during the session, the ‘worst’ that can happen
is for you to fall asleep!
Q:
Is it safe?
A:
Yes, absolutely. Any professional and respectable therapist will have
your best interest at heart. As explained above, hypnosis is a totally
natural state, which we all experience daily and it totally safe.
Additionally during the first session, your therapist should ask you a
number of questions including your health status. There are some
contraindications and these include severe health issues such as brain
damage, some psychiatric disorders, heart disease and epilepsy.
A:
I often compare hypnosis with the feeling of just waking up when you know
you don't have to get up, you don't even have to open your eyes - those
wonderful few moments of complete relaxation between sleep and wakefulness.
It is a very comfortable place to be particularly because we live such busy
lives. People often feel revitalised and refreshed after a session.
A:
As each individual client comes with a unique set of circumstances, it is
very difficult to predict the number of sessions required to
create effective and long lasting changes. However, in most cases issues
are resolved within 2 to 12 sessions. Sometimes even one unique session
suffices. A treatment plan will be discussed and agreed upon at the start
of therapy and will be re-evaluated as the therapy progresses.
Q: How
does hypnotherapy compare with counselling and
psychotherapy?
A:
Hypnotherapy can address the same issues. However,
in contrast with counselling and psychotherapy, hypnotherapy is essentially
goal-oriented. This means that I always ask my clients what they want
to achieve and we work together to deliver the results they want.
Changes start to be noticed within a few sessions and for the vast majority
issues are resolved in less 10 weeks. With hypnotherapy, you won't be
sitting on a therapist's couch for months.
A:
The 30 minute free consultation gives you the opportunity to discuss your
current circumstances and determine whether hypnotherapy is the right
solution for you. It allows us both to ascertain if and how we
can work together to bring the changes you want in your life. Following
your 30 minute consultation, you are free to choose whether you would like
to start work there and then or book an appointment for a later date.
